Dear Sunrise Acres Students, Parents, Families, and School Community,

Welcome to Sunrise Acres ES!  Welcome home!  We are glad that you are here.  We are so happy that you have chosen our school for your child’s education.  Our school strives every day to provide a rich academic environment full of amazing opportunities for all students.  We will honor our pledge to create a safe and respectful learning environment for our entire school community.

This is my second year as the principal of Sunrise Acres.  I’m looking forward to another great year working with all of you.  Together, we will make a difference!  Our theme this year is “Six Houses…One Family!”  We will embrace this philosophy in everything we do at school.  Community pride and school spirit are extremely important concepts to me!  This year, we will be inviting our parents, families, and community to join us every day for our morning ceremony.  This will help us strengthen our home and school connections.

We will continue to work together to increase academic achievement, accelerate student learning, and ensure success for our Jaguars.  Our school will be the “hub” of the community where all learners can collaborate and develop a sense of belonging.

I’m thrilled to announce that we have designed two science labs for our primary grades and intermediate grades.  We will focus more on science experiments, hands-on tasks, and engaging projects.  Let’s move full STEAM ahead!  We will ramp up our Accelerated Reader (AR) Program and include more motivation and incentives to inspire our students to build their reading skills.  We will be working together to improve student achievement in math.  We are implementing i-Ready diagnostic assessments in K-5 this year.  This alignment will help us monitor student progress and help our students to excel in reading and math.  Please help us boost our student engagement and participation this year.  Please ensure that your child is at school every day on time.  Attendance and positive school behavior are linked to student success!  We will continue to focus our attention on improving attendance and enhancing our student leadership initiative.  Our Jaguars will play a central role in our house meetings and community service projects.  It’s all about serving our school community and making a difference for others!

I am honored to be your principal.  Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns.  I am always happy to hear from all of you!

Ms. Iverson is a proud member of UMUSA! Kindness starts here!

Six houses…One family!  Welcome home!  Let’s go, Jaguars!

Sincerely,

Dear Sunrise Acres Students, Parents, Families, and School Community,

It is with great enthusiasm and excitement that I write this letter of introduction as the new assistant principal of Sunrise Acres Elementary School!  I am truly honored to accept this new role and look forward to working alongside Mrs. Iverson, as well as the rest of our staff, in efforts to advance the achievement of all students.

I am a dedicated, enthusiastic professional who is passionate about educating children. I bring over twenty years of educational experience, specifically in the field of special education. I have taught multiple grades K-8 in various roles. My experiences with various disabilities, behavioral approaches, and learning styles have inspired me to look at the larger picture to make positive changes within our schools and communities.

I was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona and have always been an outdoor enthusiast. My passion for sports has taught me a great deal about discipline, dedication, leadership, and how to be an active participant in my community. I enjoy running, backpacking, cycling, and exploring the great outdoors. My husband and I have lived in Vegas for fifteen years. In addition, I am the president of a local non-profit all women’s cycling team, vice-chair of the Henderson Bike Advisory Committee, vice-chair of the River Mountains Loop Trail Partnership Association and a Henderson Trail Watch Volunteer. I take pride in being an involved community member and I’m excited that I am now a part of the Sunrise Acres community.

As the assistant principal, I will work to support students academically, socially, and emotionally. I believe in the potential of each student, and realize we are not just preparing them for the next grade, but for the future. This preparation will include real-life experiences that are challenging, relevant, engaging, and meet the needs and learning styles of individual students.

I can’t wait to meet every one of you in person. I am looking forward to supporting the students, staff, and community of Sunrise Acres Elementary School. I’m proud to be a part of the family!  Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns grubejl@nv.ccsd.net.

Go Jaguars!
